Christmas project 101 : Personalized and hand painted Christmas greeting cards

There’s something about receiving greeting cards, either by hand or by mail. I couldn’t explain it,  but for me, I find it sooo special to receive a card through snail mail or express. It really becomes a lasting impression. A special memento, a keepsake that is treasured. Traditional greeting cards beats all the technology that we have in right now.Receiving cards is totally different from e-cards,and mobile messages that we can send through internet.Call me traditional but I can never trade the crisp texture of an envelop containing a card than swiping my fingers in my iPhone.

It’s Christmas time once again and one of the things that floods the shops and bookstores are wide arrays of Holidays greeting cards. There’s so many designs and styles to choose from. From family to friends, to business and for general media, you name it, there’s always a card for any occasion.Back then in Kuwait, I couldn’t have this lifestyle because the mailing system is so crazy that there is 99% that mails got lost into doom land. There were numerous times that our mails were lost and it’s so hard to track. Now that we live in Germany where the local postal system is just right at our doorstep, I find another excuse.

My Christmas greeting cards project this holiday season

If receiving cards gives a lasting impressions, how about making and giving it instead, yourself?

This year I wanted to make something special. I wanted to make a craft project that I can really do and not compromise. I needed to squeeze my tight schedule for a craft time for drawing & designing cards. So instead of buying dozens of Christmas cards to be sent out to our dearest  friends and family, I decided to make them instead.

Holiday Craft project : Watercolor painted greeting cards

The materials are simple and very handy : Watercolor, colored pencils, construction papers or  parchments, a creative mind and  a lots of love!

Why personalized and handmade greeting cards make the lasting impression this Holiday season? Here’s my  FIVE (5)  reasons ;

  • It shows your style – The type of card, design and the content you share always shows  a bit of who you are.Your personality is delivered through your drawing, handwriting, and even on the choice of materials  you used.Remember, every card is special.
  • A bridge to connect with someone special – As an Expat, we are very good in connecting to far away friends & love ones. But almost all of them through our phones. There’s No better way for me to bridge the gap between love ones and friends than making an effort to send a message to them. This also depends on your location and accessibility to make this happen. Sending mails and cards can be expensive too but it all depends on your budget and lifestyle.

Few of my personalized greeting cards, all hand made, designed and drawn by me.
  • It has the unbeatable element of Surprise – There’s no undeniably bad reason for having a big surprise when you receive something that is totally unexpected. That moment when you receive a greeting card from a friend that you haven’t spoken for years, that family or relative that live across the other side of the world..It’s all about the element of surprise. It’s a priceless gift and oftentimes, unforgettable!
  • It’s really the thought that counts – Okay , so if you’re not feeling creative or crafty and your artwork sucks? Never mind, for what really matters is the thought of giving. I once received a card for my daughter that is drawn by a 3-years old, it only shows smears and dots made out of colored pens, more like a scratch. But for me, I find it so special.
  • It shows that you care – The act of making it,and picking out a design to make cards shows that you care and you are willing to give a fraction of your time during the busiest time of the holiday season, and that is enough reason to make someone else laugh, smile and feel loved.

Do you still need more reason?

To make cards and to give them away  is simply because its Christmas! and who doesn’t want to feel loved this time? I have learned this mantra : You cannot give what you don’t have.

Have a little love, have a little artwork, spread a lasting impression!

“There’s something about the tactile nature of receiving a card,” says Shelley Patenaude, product manager for season cards. “It says that someone cared enough to pick out a card just for you, hand-write a note, and place it in the mail or deliver it by hand. Unlike a message that shows up on your computer or mobile phone, greeting cards make a lasting impression. You can display a card on your mantle for all to see or keep it forever as a memento. And with the hustle and bustle of the season, a greeting card provides that moment of peace that’s just between the sender and the recipient.”

Do you like to send someone a card this Christmas?

If you like my designs of cards in photos above and you want to receive a FREE hand-made & personalized  Christmas card, just write your thoughts in the comments or you can email me at justbluedutch@gmail.com!

Feuillemort & Lessons from dried leaves

F e u i l l e m o r t

(adj.)  Having the colour of a faded leaf.

French- feuille morte a dead leaf

Earlier today , I’ve learned something deep from simply looking at the bunch of brownish-coppery shades of dried leaves,  it’s Feuillemort. Looking at the trees around me, I watched the dried leaves  falling one by one to the ground with a gentle sway of the wind.  In a rhythmic motion, they dance to the call of gravity. It’s the call of the hour. It struck me as Letting go.

What if the trees itself refuses to let go of its dried leaves during fall ? What difference does it make?

Letting go makes room for growth.

img_1703

Autumn is the season of letting go, letting go enables us to grow.

A time to toss the clutter, the insignificant “part”of our lives that blocks us from growing.

I admit that I have the feeling restlessness these past weeks. Being in a new place with so many new things around me, sometimes my body & my mind refuses to comprehend.Transition takes time. Integrating on a new culture is a pain in the ass.

Do you know how hard it is when you can’t say what you want to say?  It’s like being in a bubble. You feel trapped. On the other hand, this momentary  black hole gives me time to reflect, to listen to myself. A time to change.

img_1704

Letting go gives us a given benefit, the means to focus more on our core–on what really matters to us.What matters to you the most?

img_1702

For us, it’s not leaves. It’s dried up love. Crumpled relationships. Shriveled plans. Browning dreams. Something’s died, and we have a choice: will we hold on to it, season after season, while it saps our energy, stunts our growth, and strangles our beauty?

I decided not to.

img_1709

Expats are known for packing their luggage. Sometimes ‘living out from suitcases & boxes’. We roam around and travel like nomads looking for greener pastures. Off to next destination. It’s very easy to fall into the trap of packing the “dried leaves” from our past so in the present, it’s still with us. You can change places, but you ‘re still  “unchanged” within. What is your color?

fullsizerender-62

I hope you find inspiration from the dried leaves as I did today. Let’s take a lesson from the trees, from autumn, and let that old, unhelpful stuff in our hearts fall away. Trees don’t choose to let go, but we can. Any season of the year.

Focus on letting go of negative thoughts, letting go of patterns of behaviour which do not help you, letting go of doing things you think you should but don’t really want to…

Let go of that which you no longer need and give yourself permission to nurture yourself.

Let go.

Are you having a hard time to let go ?

Do you find time to reflect and meditate?

Solar Eclipse in our Living Room!

Have you ever witnessed a Solar Eclipse?

solar eclipse-salzburg
* 1999 Solar Eclipse viewed in Salzburg,Austria  (Photo Credit to my amazing Dutchie  Husband)

I did, but I was too young to document or even photographed it. I remember in grade school that we are advised to wear dark sunglasses and spread ourselves outside to watch a solar eclipse. Then we need to write something about it just how we have seen it. I grew up in South Pacific area where there are notably numbers of Solar eclipses have been visible. It was a great childhood memory.

An eclipse is a natural phenomenon. Nevertheless, in some ancient and modern cultures, solar eclipses have been attributed to supernatural causes or regarded as bad omens. A total solar eclipse can be frightening to people who are unaware of its astronomical explanation, as the Sun seems to disappear during the day and the sky darkens in a matter of minutes.I remember that when I was small, we have stories that monsters appears during Eclipses!!

My husband spent his holidays mostly in Austria. Other than skiing, He just enjoy it there and a pure wanderer. On his vacation, it just happened that He was one fine lucky Dutchie who witnessed the Solar Eclipse in Salzburg, Austria last 1999 among thousands of tourists who flew over just for this event.

This is one of the most-viewed Solar Eclipse in the history !

Dom Salzburg
The DOM in Salzburg where reflection of the sun  can be seen during partial eclipse,1999,Salzburg Austria

It was the first total eclipse visible from Europe since 22 July 1990, and the first visible in the United Kingdom since 29 June 1927.It lasted of about 2 minutes and 23 seconds from Romania with the greatest Eclipse point.

Dom Salzburg 3
The view of the partly hidden sun in the walls of the cathedral. (Photo credits to my awesome Husband for capturing all these photos!)
The solar eclipse was seen in a central part of Europe, such as Southern Germany, Austria and further eastwards.
He chose to be going to Salzburg for that day, knowing that the solar  eclipse would be totally 100% visible there, unlike further north and south where the eclipse would be partial. Like many others , He was lucky enough to find a spot  on the bleachers in front of the Dom in Salzburg. The bleachers were placed for the annual ‘Festspiele’.
The weather that day started with some drizzle, but the time the eclipse was about to start, the sky was clear. Then the show begins.
0001
1999 Solar Eclipse (Photo credit to one lucky Dutchie)
During the time the eclipse was not yet 100%, it was possible to see the reflection of the partly hidden sun on the Dom, as it was not possible to look directly at this without special glasses, which are like extremely dark sunglasses. During the few minutes the eclipse was 100% is was possible to look at the ” WONDER” of seeing the
Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, and the Moon fully or partially blocks (“occults“) the Sun. This can happen only at new moon, when the Sun and the Moon are in conjunction as seen from Earth in an alignment referred to as syzygy. In a total eclipse, the disk of the Sun is fully obscured by the Moon. In partial and annular eclipses, only part of the Sun is obscured.
Only for those who have been so lucky or fortunate to have seen a full solar eclipse can understand why people fly over the world to experience one. Sighs!
Indeed witnessing something as spectacular as this could change your view about astronomy, space, the earth and your own life.
This is indeed  one beautiful experience that is just worthy of remembering every now & then. In our new living room now hangs 4 of the fine shots of this wonderful event that would be remembered forever. My husband framed it and now we have a full view of it everyday!

Do you like this idea? How do you keep your travel memories alive?
It’s still in my wish list to watch another Solar Eclipse like this with my daughter. I’m sure it’s going to be a great experience as well.
For those who wants to have this kind of experience, The next Solar Eclipse will be on August 21, 2017. The total solar eclipse will be visible from most locations in the United States. This eclipse will be the first total solar eclipse visible from contiguous United States since 1979.

An Ode to Alone Time

“He who lives in harmony with himself lives in harmony with the world.”

~Marcus Aurelius

The Astronomy Park and Garden I recently discovered from my morning time walk.

Do you acknowledge your need to recharge?

Have you ever tried to be happy by spending time alone with yourself?

Don’t get me wrong, I am not an introvert type of person, actually I am the opposite. But over the years I spent my life as an Expat, I have learned one thing , one specific need of my mind, body & soul – the need to recharge my self by time spent alone. You see, I have noticed that in fact, so many people who don’t take the necessary time to recharge end up feeling isolated, despite always being with others.

This is very common. You are there, but you’re not actually IN THERE. I knew this feeling very well because I’ve been in his black hole before.

When I became a mother of a very active child, I have never felt so little time for myself more than I’ve had in my life.I felt that I am always needed, always need to be there for this little human who keeps on tugging on the edges of my pants and shirt. When I am sitting down, she climbs up to me as fast as the lightning goes.

The times that I actually slept for more than 8 straight hours seems like a dream for me. It happened once, but I couldn’t remember anymore how does it felt. I always give in to this excuse that there’s so much things to do, yet so little time. I was completely wrong.I’m denying myself of one of life’s precious gift!

There are many times where I’ve been “out of it” while hanging out with friends , or just being socially active because I haven’t taken time to recharge. So what are we to do?

IMG_0108
I snap this photo of a man sitting in a bench watching the sun set along the River Danube in Germany. So simple, yet so fulfilling. You don’t really need constant entertainment. Nature is enough.

Life changes are real. When you are in a different place,  you literally don’t know anyone yet, or you basically don’t know the language, you just had a baby , and this leaves your mental ability to cope comes to a test. Haven’t you realized it yet that there won’t always be people around for you to hang out with, so you’ll need to learn to be happy by yourself anyways.

Are you one of the millions of people who doesn’t like to let go of their FOMO? or their Fear of Missing Out?Do you find yourself constantly hooked on social media and felt like you are missing out a lot?

I knew these feelings. But lately in my life I have chosen to acknowledge my need for a time spent alone and the results were far better than I imagined. This is time where I made an active effort to get to know myself and my values. I am are alone because I choose to be alone at that moment, and I know that I can enjoy myself even without company.

A photo I took while I am watching morning rays in this path walk in the Astronomy park & garden. This garden is all about planets and the solar system. Just like this path, it leads to more discoveries.

So how am I doing it? Here are some things I love doing in my Alone Time. Most of these things are cheap, inexpensive and free. You just need to have the right motivation.

1.Spending time outdoors appreciating nature.

There’s so much lovely things to enjoy everyday if we will just go out & look. Even in Kuwait that is so hot & could be raining with dust, Nature has been my source of inspiration. A walk in the park, admiring flowers, or beach combing in the beach, or simply just watching the sunsets. There are a lot of beauty out there, so don’t miss out!

IMG_0120 (1)
Have you ever wondered how many types of roses there are?

2.Minimize yourself to exposure to Negativity

Do you like news? Yes, we appreciate what is going on globally. But too much absorption of all the negative messages is a sure way to kill and worsen your mood. Would you believe that I can actually say I can live without TV. The only thing that we can watch for more than an hour now is the nursery rhymes videos of my little girl :).

3.Meditate on your Values

When you are alone, spend some time considering whether you are happy and if you are acting congruent with your values. Not only will this increase your overall happiness, but it will also help you use your time better.I love doing this while I’m taking a walk and asking myself If I really like what is going on in my life. Sometimes I even do this while I push the stroller and waiting for my daughter to sleep. You can even try doing this while you are preparing your dinner .Unless you hate cooking and tidying up the kitchen then you might get a reverse answer.

4.Alone time means -Take care of ME!

This means exercising, eating right, getting enough sleep, and finding ways to manage your stress. The most common excuse for not taking care of ourselves is that we don’t have enough time. Combine this with your alone time and you will for sure feel better about yourself.

This will also have a positive effect on the time you spend with your friends. The better you take care of yourself, the better you’ll be in your relationships with others. The next time you meet with your friends, they would just be dying to know more about you. When you feel good about yourself, it will show.

You can also try to be involved in new hobbies. I do look forward to doing some art works soon , learning a new language, writing and spending more time in the garden. I am personally grateful that in our new place here, we have our own garden.I knew that some people like people watching, or pretend as tourists. It doesn’t matter, as long as where you find inner peace for yourself, then its your own personal time.

The time I spent with my husband and my daughter are precious. They always make good memories. The time I spent with my faraway friends either online or physical are always good times worth remembering. They make the days go by. But the time I spent alone for myself is good for myself.

I leave you with these words — make something more scarce, and it will grow up. Simple economics.

Thank you for reading and I wish you find joy for some quiet time with yourself.

Country Living, Are you still enamored?

Does the idea of living in a quiet, open spaces, beautiful serene landscapes, with a slower pace of life appeals to you?

Where privacy & tranquility has no cost, let alone it doesn’t come in a Spa!

41

For years, I am always fascinated of the idea of seeing lots of country feel neighborhood. I always dreamed and strived in my own ways to always be close to nature. Here in Kuwait, my views every morning is the my neighboring flats & buildings. It’s a good thing at least that we have large windows in the living room where we have sea view & access to natural (yet so strong !) daylight. Every building has its own charisma, either with eclectic design or just its amusing lighting. City life is also good, It has its pros & cons naturally and  it makes you feel like you are on a fast-paced of life where technology and modern buildings makes your life appealing…but sometimes depressing.

Who wouldn’t want a daily dose of Vitamin G? “Vitamin G” stands for Greenery—trees and plants, which the country has in spades. Not merely pretty, they also come with serious benefits that science is just beginning to understand. Scientific studies have shown that when humans are deprived of greenery, they can suffer in a variety of significant ways.I was really fascinated when I have read that or instance, a study found that when humans spend even a few minutes on a crowded city street, their brain is less able to retain information or control impulses.

IMG_9893

But what about the idea of viewing vast acres or hectares of just pure greens around you? With the animals flocked freely grazing? That the chirping of birds is the normal music you hear instead of honking of cars?

The other night I was awakened by loud honking of cars. I knew it must be coming from the busy street just below our apartment. What on earth is happening? It is 2am in the morning! The odd thing about living within the busy streets with a mixed used complex is the outside noise that cannot be fixed by good acoustics in your building. There is a scientific study which  found out that residents of apartments with views of concrete/asphalt reported higher levels of aggression and violence than did their counterparts living in identical buildings with tree views.Personally, I would prefer a view of trees or gardens instead of a view of Satellite dish, roof tops, busy roads & parking area..let alone a garbage dump!

Have you’ve been inhaling clean, fresh air? or you are too busy to notice. There is something about healthy in country living. The air you breathe and its quality,  People living around more trees and grass generally experience lower levels of air pollution, which has been linked to conditions associated with asthma and heart disease. Well here in Kuwait, dust is something that has been a constant particulates in the air.

IMG_1885

One of the perks of country living is that a normal bike ride or just having a walk in the woods is like a trip to the Botanical Garden and Zoo. One time while Me & my daughter take a spin in the neighborhood, we see horses, ducks, roosters, chickens, goats, and rabbits! All happily grazing & hopping plus a sight of an old windmill that adds to a picturesque view.

There’s fewer psychological problems in living in rural areas. I have read from the articles and journals in the  Schizophrenia Bulletin, at least 10 studies have shown that people in urban areas are more likely to develop psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia. The available evidence suggests that more than one-third of all schizophrenia cases may be related to (or greatly exacerbated by) environmental factors in an urban setting.

Additional studies have shown that rural residents are less likely to have anxiety disorders. Scientists examined the prevalence of extreme anxiety in more than 345,000 residents of the Netherlands—male and female of all ages—and found substantially lower rates of disorders among those living in relatively green regions. In residential areas with 90% green space, the annual prevalence was 18 per 1,000; in areas with only 10% green space, the rate increased to 26 out of 1,000.The same study found that green environments can also relieve sadness and depression. This is  definitely something to smile about.

11220468_1204123022937311_4973759442861347170_n

The idea of growing your own food sounds good too. In the country you have the chance & ability to produce your own food. The food produce are fresh, and not loaded with preservatives. In the country, you can easy grow enough fruits and vegetables for own consumption. Most importantly is the low crime rate. It’s very unlikely that you will be mugged. Life in the country is much safer than in the city when it comes to crime which is virtually non-existent in the countryside. You can literally let your child loose and explore.

1_453466186l

What about you? what are your living preferences? Is country living appealing for you or you can’t be enamored by it?

Thanks and I would love to hear your thoughts.

Little one’s footprints in the sand

Last week we had an awesome weekend spent in the beach with our friends. The place is quiet, with mostly with Kuwaiti chalets nearby. It was perfect getaway away from the crowds and the hustle in the Gulf street. My daughter is a beachbummer. She love the beach, the scent of it, the wind & the blue waters. She had a delightful time as always when she is outside playing .One fascinating I look forward is seeing her basking in the sand, without a care in the world, eating, licking & playing the sand with her hands, stomping in the waters with her feet, and shrieking every time the tides came by. She run all over the place, stomp and made holes in the sand (with a little help of course ! ) and eventually rolling over the white-powder beach sands . She’s enjoying this and letting her steam out until she became so exhausted to collapse in her afternoon nap.Yes, she loves napping in the beach too.

She made memories there. She made footprints.

Footprints are the marks we leave in any path we go by walking or running barefoot. There is such a nostalgic charm seeing these little footprints in the sand.

So tiny, yet so special.

When was the last time you have walked barefoot in the sand and made footprints? When was the time that you have let the ground be aware of your presence? Was it a good mark?

Have you notice which direction have you taken?

IMG_4408

Footprints on the sands of time are not made by sitting down.

Footprints are like the random acts we leave on other people’s lives. The footprints symbolizes our acts of kindness, acts of service, or maybe a not- so- pleasant action that leaves a mark on the lives of people that we encounter on a daily basis. The sand of the beach may refer to the soft, fragile emotions & feelings of a person. One act of kindness can leave a print in their hearts that time can never erased. Our actions are like the prints & marks we leave on every interaction. Unlike the footprints in the sand that are easily washed away by the tides, then its just a memory.Never to be seen again.

How well aware are you of the marks that you leave on others? How does your words made others feel?

IMG_5163
Your actions are leaving footprints in the lives of others.

My daughter may not be able to make another footprints on the same beach, same place or the same time as this, but when she grows up, I will show to her these photos of her tiny sweet footprints. It’s a great memory to remember.

Do you personally leave a lasting memory that others cherished & look back ?

I personally reflect on this and evaluate my  random actions. I asked myself, Am I leaving good set of “footprints “in the hearts of the people in my life?in my circle? to my friends, to my neighbors,  to the taxi driver, to the strangers I saw in the street, or even to the cashier in the grocery shop ? What kind of impression I leave on them?

We can make lots of footprints, It is very easy. But It is also very easy to leave a foul mark. We can have a choice to either be polite & courteous , to smile or to frown or we can be harsh & arrogant. It’s all depending on our choices. I have learned this ; The random acts of kindness is always contagious. It is always good. It always heals. Always the right thing to do.

I hope to leave you with a cheerful and grateful heart with this post . For the last 2 months that I have been blogging here in WP, I have met wonderful people. With every comment I made, I impart myself. With every post I shared, I shared my life.Thank you for all the kindness that you have given as a “footprint “in my heart as well. I am grateful and cherished it all.

I am going to continue making footprints..good ones , the kind ones.

How does this post made you feel? What is the random act of kindness you have done lately?

My Sentiments from the Clouds

IMG_8326
Moody Swings : A Dark, Cloudy Vision

“I have learned to detach from my thoughts, said a young woman.I observe them like clouds moving across the sky. Sometimes I reached out and grab at them & remember that they ‘re just passing by and so I let them go. I felt much better for letting my thoughts go because they really drive me mad.”

DSC08996

How did you wake up today? Was your mind clear and so as your vision?

Or was it cloudy?  Are you familiar with Brain fog?

Whenever we identify with an unpleasant thought or mood, we are not our true selves. These thoughts & moods are not who we are. We need to treat our thoughts like the clouds in the sky…distant… passing…insubstantial.

In Zen , we are endowed with Buddha nature, empty, vast and sky-like, which is always present even when hidden by clouds. This disagrees or doesn’t disagree with early Buddhist teachings about impermanence, depending on who you ask.

Do you also find yourself in the midst of Worries? or even entangled with them?

How sound was your mind lately?

Worries, yeah, I am familiar with them. When I became a mother, I worry even more. Simple things like :  Is my daughter growing well? Am I doing this right? or maybe I am doing the wrong way?  Or what can I make for dinner, or what more can I do for others to read what I write?

These questions made me worrisome. Sometimes I am not mindful that I am in this state. Living in Kuwait, I even worry constantly about the weather, Really!

Can you relate on these? What are your daily thoughts of worries?

Worries and anxieties are like clouds. They are just thoughts that pass through the mind. They are not facts. They are not the truth. They have no reality. They are like a mental game of asking, “What if…”, and nothing more.

TEMPORARY THOUGHTS

Have you look at the clouds that pass through the sky today? Was the sky clear? cloudless? Clouds  are made of vapor, and they change form as they move through the sky. They hide part of the sky or all the sky, and sometimes they hide the sun. However, this is only temporary. Sooner or later they move on, allowing the sun to send its rays down again.I remember that in grade school, we were taught about different types of clouds namely Cirrus, Cumulus, Cirrustratos, Cirrocumulus, Altocumulus, Nimbustratos,Cumulunimbus and so on and so forth. I have keenly observed that formation of clouds is different from location. Here is Kuwait I seldom see Nimbus clouds since it is very rare for rainfall here, literally approx. 2x a year only.

How to Kill a Thought in a Good Way?

There could be different “cloudy aspects “in our thoughts depending on our mood and thinking. Worries become problems, imaginary problems. When you try to hold on to them, focus on them, and lose sight of the sky and the sun within you, which become temporarily hidden. Then your sight becomes gray, sullen, and stale.

“The sky and sun in this case are your spirit, the real you, your inner strength, and your ability to control your thoughts.”

Worries, which are actually thoughts, are like the clouds. They pass through the mind, hide reason, common sense and our aims and goals, and if you don’t hold to them, they go away, making place for other worries.

50
Fluffy, cottonballs of thoughts that turn into cumulus of worries in our minds.

If you keep watering your worries, and don’t let them leave you, sooner or later you might start acting and behaving in such a way, as to make them come true. Why should you?

DSC08957
Instead of cultivating the unpleasant thoughts, why not let them evaporates so you can see the blue sky and sunshine.
DSC08959
Hiding from the clouds ; Hope & Mindfulness

Thoughts don’t have to be believed. You can just acknowledge the ridiculous or negative thoughts that pop into your head, chuckle at them, and then release them. This is the essence of mindfulness.

DSC08990
Radiance of the Sun, melting the clouds

While I was reflecting on this, I decided to lift up my cloudy thoughts, and what a way to share this to others through writing. Expressing my thoughts in words. It felt good. I felt relieved.

My mind was diverted to my background music “Love & Hapiness ” by Al Green

(Wait a minute, let me tell you)
The power of love
The power…
Make you do right
Love’ll make you do wrong

(Love and happiness)

Now that’s a better thought.

I find something naturally  interesting that can draw out my curiosity. So, in the end, it’s not so much about killing our thoughts as it is about investigating them until they lose their power, and they often stop coming on their own. This is the real practice.

Here’s hoping that you feel the warmth of the sun, and feel the greens of the grass..and a not-so cloudy vision.

Why do you need to own Less Clothes?

How many of you owns more than 7 pairs of Jeans ? and how many of those pairs do you wear regularly? How many of you owns couple of dozen of blouses ? and shirts ? or jackets ? Or do you have any piece of clothing that has been sitting in your wardrobe for so long that you actually forgot that you have it? Does it still have a price tag on it?

If you have new clothes that you bought since last year and haven’t worn yet, then you just Own too much clothes. Really! Toss it!

Have you taken a closer look at your closet ? What do you feel when you see those piles of clothing ? Do you have a hard time dressing up in the morning because you just cannot decide which one to wear ? If you would take an account of how much money you spent on your clothing, would it make a difference to how you feel if it could have been a chunk of your savings? These questions are all elementary and only you know and see how your wardrobe looks like .

Lately, this is the reason why I am so inspired by the thought behind Simplicity to create a Life. If you want to have big changes in your Life, you need to start making small changes. In your habits, lifestyle, & routines on a daily basis. Things doesn’t happen overnight. So i decided to have small steps, starting on one of our basic needs, Clothing.

We, as women are notorious on this . I know for most of us that shopping for clothes is a happy theraphy. In our mind,  we don’t need justification why we own too much clothes…well at least not until you really have a lifestyle check. If you really look deeper on it, owning less clothes doesnt mean that you will have a better life ,No. Its just mean that you can have focus on creating yourself a Life that is less complicated .

“We don’t remove the clutter, reduce the stress, and boycott the busyness to have a simple life. We do it to have a life. When you simplify your wardrobe, you have the freedom to wear clothes that fit you and your lifestyle.” -Courtney Carver of  Be More with Less

When we are constantly defeated by not being simple enough, or decluttered enough, we lose sight of what are really after.

Being Frugal doesn’t mean that you Own Less Clothes

Do you really need to get the new arrival trends every season?

You do NOT own less clothes in order to become a minimalist. You do that because when you have less stuff, it means more money for worthwhile things. It could be clothes or anything else that is more meaningful to you like Travel, Education, or maybe an investment.

We all know that our self- worth is not measured by the clothes that we wear . High quality and branded clothes can make us feel good, look good and be more confident. It’s human nature. So, why do they need you to go against your nature and complicate simple living? Bottomline is, You shouldn’t buy excess items that are more than you actually need to wear.

H O W  to achieve this ?

1.One Item At a Time

You don’t have to do it all at once.

When you perceive decluttering as a huge bulk of tasks, then you’ll keep on procrastinating every time you see your extremely cluttered and disorganized closet. However, there is no reason to rush at all. Take a look at an example of a Doable strategy in owning less clothes by  Colleen’s approach at 365 Less Things.

Her decluttering philosophy is to LET GO of one item everyday, so that by the end of the year you own 365 less items. It doesn’t sound so heavy right ? Instead of ONE TIME boxing all your clothes and sorting what you actually need.

2. Give it away with a Purpose. Donate.

For new Mamas like me , here’s what I have learned. If you have a baby and have incurred so much Baby clothes and stuff and eventually your child have outgrown it, what do you do with it ? If you had another child then its ok but even then, how do you deal with the full closets & storage?

Donate or Give it Away to someone you know who have a child that could use it . Maybe your friends are shy enough to ask so initiating is always a good way to create deeper connections.Three fourths of my Baby’s wardrobe from birth are all second-hand used clothing and given by my friend. I thought that Its a very grand gesture  and until now I am grateful for it. Those clothes serves another purpose than being in a storage for years.I continue this by giving away & donating the clothes that my baby have outgrown to another friend. I let the chain continues.Kindness begets kindness. It built a deeper connection in my friendships and allow us to focus our expenditures on other baby’s needs.

You can check in your local community to give away your old clothes. ( It means that they are still in good condition ) Or if you knew someone whom to give it then don’t hesitate to donate it . I tell you, they would appreciate what you did.

Another source of Inspiration is Joshua Becker of Becoming Minimalist  shares the following compelling reasons to own less clothes:

  • You would have more disposable income.
  • You would have more time to live your life.
  • Mornings would feature less stress.
  • Your closets would be well-organized and uncluttered.
  • Packing for trips/vacations would take less time.
  • Laundry days would be easier (not necessarily less, but definitely easier).

If it doesnt sound appealing to you or you haven’t thought of this, then i leave you with this ;

If it doesn’t spark joy – Discard it.

How does the idea of owning less clothes appeal to you?
